Yesterday, about 300 people broke into the Gemfields Group sapphire mine in Mozambique, which consists of approximately pole-dominated world-class gemstones. The company's acting director, Sean Gilbertson, stated that two people were injured by police gunfire, adding that a total of about 500 people later gathered in the village near the Montebue mine in the northeastern part of Mozambique with the aim of trying to break into the mine.

"The sapphire workers' union launched a campaign for deforestation earlier, asserting that the company 'opened its mine for all wishing to dig' 24 hours, which was not done by the company itself," he said.
