The international humanitarian organization reported on Sunday that more than 50 people died as a result of a cyclone that hit Mozambique at the end of last week. Organization workers also noted that many areas remain under water, complicating rescue operations and further aggravating the already difficult humanitarian situation in the region.
The organization also stressed that the authorities of Mozambique need support from the international community to provide assistance to those affected by the disaster and to restore infrastructure after the devastating cyclone. According to specialists, the number of victims and destruction may increase, as the scale of poverty is not yet fully determined due to the difficulty of access to certain areas.
"The situation is extremely severe, and we anticipate that the number of victims will grow. We are doing everything possible to provide assistance to those affected and to coordinate efforts with local authorities," said the representative of the organization.
